ELQ – Thnal Dach New Primary School Project Report
We are thrilled to announce our New Child-Friendly Primary School Project in Thnal Dach East Village, Kien Sangkae Community in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. It is a pioneer and innovative school project. A breakthrough for Cambodia and Education improvement. A sanctuary for children and beacon shared hub for the entire Community. The New School synthesises the modern standards and needs of education together with Khmer tradition and longstanding sustainability.
New School Building Project is implemented under The Reaching out Project SDGs system: a) Schools & Education, b) Children, c) Mental Health & Care, d) Families and Communities e) Well Being.
SCHOOL CURRENT STATUS
Thnal Dach current old Primary School consists of only 2 & 1/2 unsuitable classrooms, accommodating 113 children for 6 Grades. Building has serious defects critical for children’s injuries. Two (2) grades per classroom versus quality of teaching versus excluding children from educational opportunities as presented in photos below.
The village has a 1,038 population rely mostly on seasonal farming, fishing and part time works for their livelihoods. Lack of works in Community has enhanced migration to other Provinces or neighbors’ countries. Parents migrating and leave children grow up with grandparents if any, or cross boarder migrants getting odd jobs to the best. Together with extreme poverty lead to frequent absences and finally to drop out of school.
If no actions taken children will drop out of school and number of enrolments will decrease dramatically.
The development of a new school building is an urgent need of Thnal Dach East Village.
NEW SCHOOL CHARACTERISTICS
A new modern child-friendly school building, meeting modern education standards, providing a better future for children.
One classroom per each Grade. One teacher per each Grade.
New School building is a flexible learning space under a continuous roof. Classrooms can operate independently and separately, while maintaining the connection to the courtyard or river. Classrooms can open toward each other and to the surroundings schoolyard, creating one large, flexible event area, a SALA. This allows school and communal activities such as assemblies, performances or school/community events.
Roof with polycarbonate center working as physical mechanism allowing the continuous fresh air and natural light making the environment friendly for children teaching.
The New School Building will include two (2) libraries, quiet zones for private studying and workshops.
There are included supplementary buildings such as 6 WCs, sanitation facilities, teachers’ offices, storage areas and a new kitchen structure.
Repairing and expansion of current old unsuitable tin classroom of the old school building into a new modern structure, allowing for 2 more classrooms.
Local eco-friendly materials make the New School Sustainable and Environmental friendly.
Equipped with technological facilities and libraries will encourage skills improvement, teamwork and mental health improvement. A unique teaching experience for all, minimizing destructions during the class and protect children from weather condition as heat, humidity and rain and from the extreme effects of climate change.
With the New School Building, we enhance the theatrical and dancing aptitude of Thnal Dach Primary School.
All students teaching, activities, performances and events will be implemented protected from any weather conditions.
It will be a landmark school building for multiuse events and ceremonies for School and Community. Α hub in community for teaching, exchanging ideas, community’s meetings, ceremonies, events and more.
